In 1999, a group of parents of children with cancer came together to discover ways they could support one another. They founded the Sarawak Children's Cancer Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of families of patients diagnosed with pediatric cancer.
In Sarawak alone, there is a new case diagnosed every 5 days .SCCS recognizes the complexity of the pediatric cancer experience, and we understand that childhood illness affects every aspect of the lives of patients, siblings, and caregivers. As such, SCCS provides holistic support to families by addressing financial, logistical, medical, social, spiritual, and emotional needs.
What We Do
||SCCS provides emotional and moral support to members of its community through counseling sessions, fortnightly experience-sharing sessions, home visits and informal friendships
||SCCS operates a Children Cancer Centre in Kuching as a temporary living house for outstation patients, with full provision of food and amenities.
|F (Financial assistance)
||Caring for a child with cancer is beyond the means of most of the patients we serve. To families demonstrating financial need, SCCS provides monetary assistance.
||SCCS runs campaigns, and publishes educational materials in order to generate awareness of childhood cancer. SCCS also supports the ongoing education of patients and provides in-ward tuition and encouragement for children undergoing treatment.
||SCCS organizes crafts, performances, holiday camps and other activities for children at the ward and the centre. We also provide the hospital with plenty of books, games, and toys for the patients. Thanks to the support of various corporations and NGOs, we can also offer our children various outings to fun happenings around town. We also know that for children with cancer, each birthday is a victory. To celebrate each patient, we organize birthday parties at the ward or the centre, complete with presents and cake.
