Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) is a registered NGO with an objective of providing food for the homeless on the streets and the urban poor. Our tagline 'Hunger Knows No Barriers' defines our mission as we feed anyone regardless of their race, religion, culture or background.
With our food, KSK also gives hope. Our soup kitchen building just off Jalan Imbi serves as a haven for our homeless friends. Other than providing food, it acts as a point of contact for our homeless friends to receive counselling services and medical care, as well as access to employment opportunities. Through this approach, we offer a long-term solution to the reduction of homeless men and women living on our streets. We empower them to change their situation.
In April 2011, KSK sets up amobile soup kitchen to serve the urban poor living outside the city centre. On 8th May 2012, in collaboration with Yayasan Bakti Nusa Malaysia (an NGO ambulance service), KSK was also able to extend our services and provide mobile medical care to the marginalized community. Most recently, KSK had launched a food bank, which will distribute food and other items to NGOs in the Klang Valley that are similarly dedicated to the cause of helping others in need.
What We Do
- Food Distribution
On average, 1800 packs of vegetarian food consisting of biscuits, snacks, drinking water, fruits and hot food are distributed to the homeless each week. The volume of food currently distributed has more than doubled since the commencement of our services.
- Other Services
When we are able to fulfil requests, Kechara Soup Kitchen also provides basic on-street medical care, counseling referrals to accommodation and shelter.
- Soup Kitchen Building
At our permanent Soup Kitchen building, we will distribute hot meals on a daily basis, provide medical treatment facilities and laundry services for the homeless. Our clients will also have access to employment advice.
- Nurture Centre
Kechara Soup Kitchen's long-term objective is to open a Nurture Centre, so that we can provide a practical and structured solution to reduce the flow of homeless people living on the streets.
How You Can Help

Other than food donate personal hygiene items to keep our friends on the street clean and prevent deceases.
