About Us

The Malaysian Nature Society or MNS in short was established in 1940 as a non-governmental organization (NGO). It is the oldest conservation NGO in Malaysia!

Vision:
For Malaysia's natural heritage and rich biological diversity to be effectively protected, managed and conserved for the benefit and appreciation of all Malaysians

Mission:
To promote the conservation of Malaysia's natural heritage.

What We Do

The field of nature conservation is large as there are many issues which are inter-related. Simply put, we cannot live without nature, we are the guardians of our planet including the animals, the rivers,seas and the oceans, the trees, the insects. The relationship between us and nature is a delicate and beautiful creation which we must always be mindful of. MNS is striving hard to keep this in balance but requires everyone to play a role.

MNS's areas of focus:

  • Habitat conservation including forests and marine habitats
  • Outreach through environmental Education in schools through School Nature Clubs, Nature Education Centres and others
  • Policy and advocacy
  • Membership of its youth and society's members
  • Fundraising to support the above activities

Noteworthy:

  • 2012 - won the Europa Sustainability Award 2012
  • 2008 - won the Merdeka Award for the environment
  • 2008 - BirdLife International Partnership (based in the U.K.) Award and member
  • Recipeint of the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Protection) Global 500 Award
  • Member of IUCN (The World Conservation Union
  • 2012- Our education centre KSNP (Kuala Selangor Nature Park) was awarded as a top eco-tourism site by the State Government
  • Pioneer member of MENGO (Malaysian Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations Network)
  • MNS has 14 State branches run by dedicated MNS member volunteers
  • Played a major role in establishing the Endau-Rompin National Park
  • Played a key role in the gazettment of the Royal Belum State Park
  • Runs six nature education centres in Malaysia
  • Publishes the Malaysian Naturalist Magazine and the scientific Malayan Journal (since 1940)
  • Signature annual public events include Raptor Watch in Port Dickson and Festival of Wings in Kuala Selangor

How You Can Help

MNS relies fully on public support from individuals, companies and others.

  • Think of your decisions and actions daily and how it impacts Mother Nature positively or negatively! Increase the positive and reduce the negative. Make lifestyle changes to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle for example
  • Through People Giving become an MNS fundraiser please. Organise a fun green event/activity such as jumble sale, green cooking, rent a book/dvd, say no to disposable utensils and diningware, reduce (electricity/food/over-consumption)-get your friends to join or sponsor. Run a marathon or cycle and support our cause. What you saved you give
  • Join MNS as a full fledged member of the Society and volunteer your skills and time
  • If you're a youth join the youth KPA
  • If you're a corporate company, become an MNS Corporate Supporter
  • Collaborate with us on corporate promotions
  • Fund our projects, activities and events
  • Advertise on our website and publications
