World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Inspired by our Christian values, World Vision is dedicated to working with the world's most vulnerable people. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.
What We Do
World Vision focuses on these three main areas:
- Community Development
World Vision helps the poor to help themselves by working with them to build sustainable futures for their children, families and communities.
Advocacy is a ministry of influence using persuasion, dialogue, and reason to affect change. It seeks to address the structural and systemic causes of poverty and injustice by changing policies, practices, and attitudes that perpetuate inequality and deny justice.
To be successful, it must work at two complementary levels: policy influence and citizen empowerment. Advocacy can be carried out with those affected by poverty and injustice, for those affected, by those affected, or as a combination of all three. Advocacy is a critical component of World Vision's work to tackle the causes of poverty, protect children and promote justice.
- Emergency Relief
World Vision knows that when disaster strikes, each life, and each second, is precious. That's why we invest in the following interventions:
World Vision stocks relief supplies, trains staff and teaches communities how to respond in the face of disasters.
World Vision works with other relief agencies and local authorities to rush necessities such as clean water, food, health supplies and shelter items to survivors.
World Vision helps affected communities to rebuild their lives; providing economic assistance and reconciliation in situations of conflict.
How You Can Help
Through Community Development, contributions from child sponsors are pooled together to be invested in long-term development programmes that will give your sponsored child, his/her family and community a brighter future.
- Clean water
Clean water and sanitation can cut child death rates by half. World Vision drills wells, protects water sources and installs piping systems.
- Health care
World Vision provides prenatal and natal care, children's vaccination and treatment, HIV/AIDS awareness and counselling sessions, and training for health workers/parents to recognise and treat illnesses.
World Vision provides seeds, tools and training so that the community can secure its own food supply, cutting death rates by another half.
Education is critical to your sponsored child's future. World Vision helps the community to build schools and train teachers.
- Economic Development
In poor communities, children are often pulled out of schools to help support the family. By teaching parents how to earn a stable income, children get to stay in school. World Vision does this by providing micro loans, and income generating skills training.
Contributions raised through the Emergency Relief & Rehabilitation Fund are used as preparation to help global communities affected by natural and/or man-induced calamities.
