MAKNA International Vietnam

About Us

MAKNA's International Division was established in May 2008 with the objective of increasing MAKNA's presence in Southeast Asia and to reach more cancer patients in need. The Division is intent on collaborating with other NGOs across the region in as many ways as possible to increase cancer understanding and coping with the disease.

For its first two years, the Division has been engaged in research as well as communication projects with different partners abroad. Through collaboration with AIESEC, we have hosted more than 15 interns from various countries such United Kingdom, Vietnam, Germany, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Australia and Jordan.

During this time, we have also had communicated with fellow institutions in Hong Kong, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and Brazil, which has resulted in increasing our knowledge about how these organisations deal with the challenges related to cancer in their respective countries.

Some of these conversations have evolved into closer collaborations with a number of institutions, including National Cancer Hospital of Vietnam, The National Cancer Center of Singapore, Philippines Cancer Society and Ha Noi Medical University.

What We Do

In Vietnam, we have entered into working relationship with the Bright Future Foundation which is aimed in helping thousands of poor cancer patients. In the past two years, we have been focusing on community development and advocacy work, supporting the development of the Vietnamese National Cancer Registry, advocacy for anti-tobacco policies and training students from Hanoi Medical University in Breast Cancer Screening.

Following the establishment of our office in Ha Noi, a Memorandum of Understanding between MAKNA and Bright Future Fund (BFF) of Vietnam was signed. The BFF was founded by Vietnam's Vice-Minister of Health, Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen.

A steering committee comprising members from MAKNA and members from BFF will be set up in due course. This committee has an objective to plan for common projects and define the roles and responsibilities of each party involved.

How You Can Help

Your donations will go a long way in helping poor cancer patients have a better chance for recovery. It will also initiate and maintain the education programmes that are needed for the public to understand the disease better and how to deal with one's own cancer or help family members, friends and relatives with cancer.
