Helping to break the cycle of poverty for Orang Asli kids
I am honored to participate in the Library Of Hope project as a volunteer since 2013. This coming project on 6th April will be my 6th participation in such a wonderful and meaningful project.
I would like to help fundraise for this Literacy Project organized by PeopleGiving to build a children library and playground for the Orang Asli kids to have a safe environment to learn, play and grow.
Please help support this project by making a donation. Your contribution means a lot to the kids, their family and their future.
The Orang Asli of Kampung Sungai Ruai Tengah are now at a crossroad. The now developing lands and forest no longer provides them with sufficient game meat and vegetables anymore. They are faced with a threat of survival if they do not educate themselves to find more means of livelihood and to eventually assimilate into the modern world.
They now have come to a realization of the importance of education for the younger generation so that they are able to stand on their own two feet.
Literacy and education is truly the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
HOW WE CAN HELP?
23 February 2019: Our PeopleGiving team made a trip to Kg. Sungai Ruai in Raub, Pahang to meet the children and villagers. Every Saturday, there are tuition classes conducted here by volunteer teachers. We were very touched and encouraged by the children’s determination and interest in receiving education.
It was also eye opening to hear from the OA parents’ heartfelt sharing on the current state of affairs for their community and their visions for their children.
Encik Dollah, father of 5 children
“Cita-cita saya terhadap anak adalah untuk belajar bersungguh-sungguh dan dapat mejawat jawatan tinggi seperti anak orang lain. Orang Asli haruslah ada persaingan dan perlumbaan supaya dapat maju”
“My ambition for my children is to study hard and hold a high position job, similar to other children. There has to be competition among us so that eventually Orang Asli can advance”
