Why am I Going Bald for Cancer?

Do you remember the time when NTV7 news anchor and television personality Ras Adiba Radzi got 'suspended' for shaving her hair bald to show solidarity with a cancer awareness campaign in 2012? Well, it's 2014 and I want to do the same thing, except I won't be losing my job.

I'm a student from Brickfields Asia College and I am planning to shave my head, to the shock and awe of family, friends and potential passerbys. In the past I have thought of cancer as something that 'doesn't happen to me'. However that mindset has changed as I have met a friend with cancer near her brain and another close friend with a benign tumour in her jaw (not cancerous but it reminds me of our mortality and fragility).

For two decades now, MAKNA has blossomed from a dream into reality and we are now set to "leave a legacy behind." MFNR is part of our continuous effort in engaging with the community as we walk forward and run along with cancer patients in need for a better tomorrow.

I'm on a mission, not an impossible mission... but to me, a scary enough mission. But compared to a person facing the big "C", my fear will probably be pea sized.

My misson is to garner financial support for MAKNA, the National Cancer Council Malaysia. Therefore, fear is not an option.

What I will be doing, "lock"ing-out for you. In layman's term, going bald.

The diagnose of having cancer can throw someone down into a dark endless pit, even in a medically advance era as now. It feels like a black hole, even when the chances of being cancer-free again is there. Some, don't even get the chance of seeing the chance of recovery. Conquering fear and embracing it positively is really hard but not impossible. With lots of support and understanding, we can all help them to have a better quality of life.
