Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam comes under the management of Persatuan Saiva Siddhanta Malaysia and comes to aid of underprivileged children who are orphans, neglected, abused and from broken homes.
Located in a 3-storey corner terrace house in Taman Permata, Ulu Kelang, this home houses 27 boys aged between 7 to 17 years old. The common area on the ground floor functions as the main activity centre for the home with children studying, eating, watching TV and having their activities there.
Even though the home sits on a relatively large building, it is equipped with only very basic necessities which are old and worn out. The dull walls are also in need of a new paint job as certain parts are mouldy as a result of roof leakages.
The large space gives plenty of opportunities for a makeover that can really make full use of the space available. One particular consideration is that these boys can be quite active so any new furniture must be solid and long lasting.
They currently have quite a number of old computers which they do not need and have asked if The Star could help arrange to give these to other people who may be in need or to recycle them. It is adding to the clutter of the home.
They would also like to see each child given a chest of drawers for them to keep their items which will be lined up against the wall outside the living hall (refer study room area in picture)
Other requests include a retractable clothes hanger for the bathroom area and a storage area for the cleaning utensils.
Anbu illam is in dire need of heavy duty storage racks for their store room which is currently in a mess. No makeover would be complete without a spring clean!
