Library of HOPE - Orang Asli Children in Bersih Village-Slim River, Perak
A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life.
– Henry Ward Beecher
Every child deserve an opportunity to learn and grow. With a little help, a little hope and someone who believes in them, the dreams of a little child can be made a reality. This is what the children in the rural Orang Asli Village aspire for. To these kids who live in poverty, even the smallest of gifts mean the world. Which is why, we wish to inspire them with the blessings of education and literacy, the KEY to unlocking their strength and abilities as well as breaking the poverty cycle that they live in.
The power of education will in turn improve their general livelihood. This is the objective of the "Library of HOPE" program.
Our vision is to build a library from scratch which will enable these children of the Orang Asli village in the outskirts of Slim River, Perak to receive knowledge and the power of education. The library will be placed specifically in a community hall that serves the people of Kampung Bersih. The village, as a whole consists of 50 families including 50 children between the ages of 4 to 16 years old. The nearest school is 10 minutes from the village by foot.
Currently, there are three volunteer teachers who travel to the village to teach Sunday classes every week. With the library, we are sure that these teachers would be able to teach more subjects, frequently.
Our aim is to fill this library with children's books and toys. More importantly, it will be filled with generous love that will nurture the children with the hope of finding their success in the future.
Let's give these children a little help and love, for a little love goes a long way in nurturing great values, fundamental to their upbringing. They are the seeds of today who will, one day, blossom into the flowers of tomorrow!
"There is no friend as loyal as a book." – Ernest Hemingway
